object or

complement pronouns

Presentation

Welcome to the lesson

It is common that people repeat a noun or nouns, yet there is a way to avoid repetition. You can use a set of words based on the person or persons, the object or objects which you are referring to.

Object pronouns
Object pronouns

Here is a set of activities to practice the object or complement pronouns when buying, selling and asking for the prices of products.

Finally, you identify who or what receives an action and replace the nouns correctly.

Objective

By the end of this topic you will:
Identify complement or object pronouns and identify who or what receives a determined action. And use these words in formal and informal expressions to buy and sell items.

Some words such as pronouns can replace or substitute nouns (a person, people, an object or things); especially when they receive an action. Pronouns are located in front of the verb(s) and are often recycled.

With Subject and Object Pronouns you will practice the use of these words, click on the Fichas, Aprender and Ortografía icons.

Fichas Aprender Ortografía

Careful!

The complement or object pronouns are located after the verbs or actions, but not necessarily immediately.

Notice in the following sentences

  • The subject pronouns and object or complement pronouns are in bold
  • The verb(s) that affect(s) the object pronoun are in italics

You can reread (if necessary) the examples above to complete this activity.

Reading

Activity 2

Do you like going shopping?

Here is a text about going shopping with a family.

TIPS: When you are reading, try to identify the reference. It is located before the object pronoun.
Once you have the reference, you can substitute the complement pronoun with the appropriate word(s).

When we go shopping

I am Alexander, and I love going shopping. Sometimes my family and I go to the supermarket. There is one near my house. We can see it from here. I like to go with my family a lot because my mother checks and compares products more than once. My father's name is Tony, and he and I look for discounts mainly in the dairy products. For example yoghurt, milk and cheese. I spend a lot of time with him.

My brother and sister are Damian and Esthela. They watch movies in the children’s area. Damian does not like it because many babies are crying. My sister loves them, and some babies play with her. Finally, my mom pays all products. She prefers to use her credit card because she usually forgets the cash. When she needs it, there is some in the car. My dad has some coins but not to pay the items.
